D-Day - San Diego, CA
D-DAY: SAN DIEGO, CA
“THINK NOT ONLY UPON THEIR PASSING. REMEMBER THE GLORY OF THEIR SPIRIT.”
— Omaha Beach, Normandy
June 6, 1944—D-Day. The largest amphibious invasion in history. Allied forces stormed Normandy to break tyranny and change the world, at tremendous cost.
In the hours before dawn, the 82nd Airborne Division parachuted in behind enemy lines, securing key objectives and fighting for 33 days without relief. Their courage and sacrifice helped ensure the success of the invasion.
In 2026, GORUCK honors the 82nd Anniversary of D-Day in San Diego, CA. We carry weight. We honor sacrifice. We remember why freedom isn’t free.

EVENT CADRE: JOHNNY
From Special Forces to, well, everywhere else. Johnny has always been about embracing the unexpected. His personal mantra? "Embrace the unknown, prioritize freedom and growth, navigate fear, and define life through actions." His military service of eight years brought him to Afghanistan and Pakistan where he developed his specialization in weapons and controlling aircraft as a JTAC. But for Johnny, there's more to life than just discipline and duty. That’s why he co-founded the Southern Pines Brewing Company with fellow Green Berets. Seeking deeper meaning, Johnny journeyed into southern Patagonia's vast wilderness’. He returned enriched with tales of alpine adventures and the simple revelation that sometimes, hunger is the best sauce. Not one to rest, he then took on the challenge of combating wildland fires in Redwood National Park.
Currently, he's delving into computer science—a realm that, to him, might just rival the complexities of Patagonian weather. Philosophically, Johnny holds intriguing views. He often quips that routines might just be life’s silent joy-thieves, akin to a disappointing black coffee. In essence, Johnny's journey is about growth, liberty, and the occasional profound insight, and if there's one thing he’d want you to remember, it's to always "Know where your towel is”.
