Our standard was no blisters, no hotspots after at least one hour with 45 lbs on your back, right out of the box - WITHOUT SOCKS ON. To achieve this, even in a sweaty Florida summer, we build a seamless heel transition and 360-degree padding wrapped in synthetic suede to eliminate any hard seams and friction points. They do what they’re supposed to do.

We created the rucking revolution and the footwear to support it from the ground up. The special sauce here is the combined support from the midsole foam and the premium insert. Rucking is harder on gear and the people wearing it, so we build it tougher to support your feet over thousands of miles on any terrain.

Three years after development started, I got on a plane to NYC wearing one pair of Mackall 45s. I knocked out route recon before the first-ever Ruck Or Die, grabbed dinner, and headed to the beach under the Brooklyn Bridge for a 1 AM start.
We rucked all over NYC that night, pushing through workouts—including one to honor a buddy who gave his life in Afghanistan. We chased the sunrise, and we found it. When we finally set our rucks down, we drank victory beers overlooking One World Trade Center, where there used to be Two. We felt alive to the core of our being.
When the body’s call for Green Beret Nap Time (GBNT) could no longer be ignored, we answered. But when I woke up, I threw on a suit with that same pair of Mackall 45s, hit the streets, and added our fuel to the city that never sleeps.
This whole crazy GORUCK adventure came full circle when I rucked past the Lower East Side apartment where we first designed GR1 to thrive in Baghdad and NYC. I smiled ear to ear thinking about how much has changed since 2008, and how the most important things remain exactly the same.

"Love these shoes! Have a few MACV-2 boots that I ruck, hike, climb with until the soles are gone. Same chassis here but classy looking. They feel great and I get a lot of compliments. If they wear like my boots I will be a fan for life. I have even had to say to a few admirers “my eyes are up here”."
"I’ll start with full transparency: these shoes were provided to me at no cost as a warranty replacement for a worn-out pair of my original GORUCK Mackalls. GORUCK’s customer service throughout that process was outstanding. The color of my original pair was no longer available, so I chose the Mackall 45 in Fog as the replacement. I’m also a big fan of GORUCK footwear. I currently own two pairs of Mackalls, two pairs of Ballistic Trainers, three pairs of Rough Runners, and a pair of MACV-2s. I also bought my wife and kids their own pairs last year. We all love them! I’ve put those shoes through workouts, long-distance rucks, heavy loads, snow, mud, creek crossings, and plenty of abuse. Every pair I’ve owned has performed extremely well right out of the box. Unfortunately, this pair has been the exception. For their maiden voyage, I planned a 5-mile ruck carrying 70 pounds. GORUCK advertises the Mackall as capable of being worn blister-free without socks for an hour while carrying 45 pounds (I've been going heavy lately prepping for an event). I was wearing GORUCK socks, but by mile three I developed a significant hot spot on my left foot and had to cut the ruck short. When I pulled my sock back, I had some pretty gnarly blisters on my achilles and the back of my heel. I gave my foot a full week to heal before trying the shoes again. I also did a 16. 8mi 2-day backpacking trip over Labor Day Weekend with my Mac-V2s and double socks to protect my blisters, and I made it through without an ounce of pain. So I figured my feet were ready to try the 45s again. Tried them again today, this time with Darn Tough socks, and in less than a quarter mile I could feel the exact same hot spots developing. Heel lock lacing technique has not seemed to helped. I switched back into my original Mackalls and had zero issues. Same feet, same activity, and my older Mackalls remain incredibly comfortable while this new pair starts creating hot spots almost immediately. I still love GORUCK gear, and this experience doesn’t change the excellent performance I’ve had from virtually everything else I own from them. Their customer service has also been top-notch. But based on my experience with this particular pair of Mackall 45s, something about the fit or construction feels noticeably different from my originals. Could it be my left shoe is just off a bit? Maybe my feet aren't the right fit for them? I don't know. I really wanted to love them, especially because my original Mackalls have been such great shoes, but right now I can’t confidently use this pair for the rucks I got them for. Hopefully they will perform well for others."
"I bought a pair of these for my dad (Vietnam vet). He has diabetes and neuropathy / arthritis in his feet. His dr told his to get a show with a firmer sole to prevent foot pain. I use these shoes for trail running / rucking and am familiar with them. After listening to my dad speak about his issues with his feet, I thought these might help him. I bought him a pair and he hasn’t stopped talking about how good his feet feel for the past week. He keeps telling me they are perfect for him because they are a tennis shoe with a boot sole. I wrote this review because there might be someone else out there with this same issue looking for foot pain relief."
